Dodgy teeth, feeling more and more agitated at how your teeth are looking compared to others around you, and fed up with how you just don’t photograph as well as you used to? It could be that time then to pop along to the orthodontists and have a little chat about getting some braces fitted (braces…sounds a very old fashioned word and has been pretty much superseded by the word aligner). The fitting of braces should be seen as a treatment for people of all ages, and not as a crime against teenagers as there is one hell of a reason to consider getting the treatment done, however old you are- take a look at the new techniques on the market. Normally, a mouthful of metal that was once fixed to the teeth for 2 years, has developed into getting your teeth straightened in 6 weeks. So much work has been put into teeth alignment in the United States, and like never before, the types of treatments that people now receive are sympathetic to individual needs. Most modern aligners can be taken out for short periods of time to cater for cleaning and eating. They have also become very sympathetic to how they look in the mouth; the use of modern materials such as clear invisalign plastics and tooth colored ceramics have made the wearing of braces and aligners so much more discreet. In the end, we are all different- that’s pretty much a given and not all of these modern aligners work on everyone, but there is an awful lot of treatments out there and probably a lot more to come too in the future. Enlisting the help of your dentist can help you sift through this myriad of choice- they know your teeth and can help you arrive at the best braces/aligners around to cater for you.

Braces…can’t live with them, but you’d love to live without them. They are the root of a lot of trauma, especially if you have to wear them when you are young, but for a lifetime of keeping your teeth and fending off the dentures in later life, wear them you must. However, braces have come of age and if you look around, you may be more than a tad surprised to find that braces can be ‘cool’ to wear. Some of the new fixed braces from America have cut treatment times in half and incorporate tooth-colored materials for discretion. But if it’s discretion you are after and you have a means to spend out a little more, some of removable aligners on today’s market are out of this world. By their very nature of being removable, it’s easier to clean your teeth. Some aligners are fast too, one boasting to do the job in as little as 6 weeks. But the nature of discretion has been the driving force behind some very grand invisalign aligners from across the pond. Companies have understood that tooth alignment can be frightening to some people, they’ve listened to the phobias that people have, and have come up with a range of aligners that are made from a clear, soft plastic, that make the ultimate claim of being invisible in the mouth when being worn. At the end of the day, it’s down to you, your wallet, your vanity and your dentist that will govern what will work best for your mouth, but before you choose, you’d be wise to have a look at what’s on offer out there.
